There has been a lot of talk about warranties here of late. I am happy to report that Nielson-Kellerman (www.nkhome.com), the manufacturer of the Kestrel 4000, has outstanding service. Mine has had intermittent power problems for months. I called them last week. They asked for the serial number and said it was made in 2004 and still covered under the 5-year warranty. They said if it cannot be fixed they would replace it. The return authorization number was emailed to me along with an UPS label for FREE shipping.
That was last Wednesday. Today I received a new one and a note to register it for another 5-year warranty. Can't beat that.
Strangely, Kent Harshman had a problem with his new Kestrel 4000 last year and called them and did not get satisfaction. He ended up returning it to the mail order house he had gotten it from. He did end up buying a new one and has had no problems that I am aware of. I was unable to get in touch with him tonight to see what the problem was. Maybe they just didn't like Kent!
(thread update: it happened 2 years ago and NK asked Kent to "monitor" his new Kestrel to see what was happening rather than a quick replacement.)
And before you ask...Yes, I religiously chart the temp, humidity and density altitude. Do I know which way to turn the powder dial? Not really. But I have some inkling with the 8208 that I use. An inkling is just a wee bit better than a guess.
