Kelbly Rings for Anschutz 2013

Hi Guys,

I need to convert a set of Kelbly rings for use on an Anschutz.

I understand that I need to machine a set amount of the bottom.

But, I don't have an Anschutz to work out how much.

Does anyone happen to know the figure or can supply a drawing?

G'day Rod

I can't provide a drawing, but i did about 15 sets for BRT earlier this year.. From memory it was about 0.040" off the bottom but don't quote me.
Give BRT a call/email i'm sure they will know the exact amount to remove..

Cheers

Ring an A-54

I did a set yrs.ago for my A-54 ( sold gun )..... I used a ball nosed end mill to duplicate the profile of the action... therefore removing less material...

I've done several sets to fit 2013s and Halls. I think I removed .030 to .035" from the bottom. The most important area to look at is the "point" or Vee of the newly cut surface. This vee , in my experience , always bottoms out in the root of the dovetail on the receiver. You want the mating surfaces to bear on the bottom flat and the angled surface above the flat [ on the rec. ]. You do NOT want the rings mating surfaces bearing on the very inner most portion of the rec's dovetail. I mill off a few thou on each side of the ring and then trial fit. Doing it this way [ aka right ] means you take less off the bottom. You have to creep up on it.

I like to be able to see a tiny bit of light showing through the inside of the vee of the rec's dovetail cuts when the rings are mounted. This lets me know the rings are not bearing there. Also, the flat machined on the vee of the rings should keep them from sitting too deep.
