I have one of the 6PPC Sako's in need of a good set of rings & bases, (I prefer the Kelbly/Davidson dovetail set-up), anyone know where to get some?
I need an action wrench too!
You can buy a length of dovetail base and have a machinist fit it to your action. He will have to machine the bottom of the base to match the radius of the action and drill and counterbore the mounting screw holes. You can get the dovetail base blank from most of the BR suppliers.
The machinist can also make you an action wrench out of some drill rod of the appropriate diameter.
Have never seen such a thing. You already have the dovetail. Cheapest route is Leupold extra high and lap them when you get your eye relief right. Make sure you put them on the tapered dovetail correctly. Or find a set of high SAKO original rings with the windage if you need the windage.

This is the set up(left picture)that was on it when I bought it 8 years ago.
I never liked the Talley's on this type of rifle and I've found a home for them on a Newton I bought at auction in January.
I already have an extra set of Kelbly's rings and since these bases are never going to be used I'm thinking about facing the top of the Talley bases(right picture)and drilling & tapping them to except a Kelbly base. Makes the conversion from Sako to Davidson & saves drilling and tapping my lil Sako too!
I still need an action wrench, or a good alternative. Got any ideas?
Thanks...Jay
