K-Hornet barrel set back

I've seen on a number of threads about setting a Hornet barrel back befor rechamberring to K-Hornet. I can see the rational with an AI chamber but would like to know why it is done with the K-Hornet.

Thanks

Since the Hornet headspaces on the rim I can't imagine why they would need to set a barrel back.

What Mickey said. The only reason I can think of is if the neck diameter of the new chamber is different or if it's simply to freshen the throat.

If it was MY money paying for the rechamber job I would sure as heck set it back and get rid of the LONG, off center factory throat.

one reason is...

To be sure of cleaning up any belly or looseness in the factory chamber. Setting it back lets the new reamer define the chamber instead of the unknown hole that is there now.

But K-Hornets have been done with only homemade body reamers if you can imagine that. I suspect that in its day most of the re-chambers were done by simply reaming the old hole without setting the barel back.

A chamber cast would be a good first step in this job.
