I just picked up ruger #1 in 6mm ppc, and i'm looking for brass. any help would be great.

Ron Hoehn is where you buy your brass.

You can buy it raw or neck turned. You will need to know the neck diameter dimension of your chamber.

If you want to turn your own - just tell Ron when you call and he can set you up with everything you will need.

Ron is a great guy and a great asset to Benchrest shooters.

You have a couple of choices:

1. Form the cases yourself from 220 Russian. See:
http://benchrest.com/articles/artic...PC/Frank-Murphy-on-6PPC-from-220-Russian.html

2. Buy prepped cases. See:
www.benchrest.com/hoehn/ .

You need to be aware that there is no standard 6PPC. You need to make cases for your chamber. You need to find a bullet that works with your chamber's freebore, etc.

When you say "just betting into benchrest", do you mean shooting paper off a bench for rest and relaxation or do you mean throttle-to-the-firewall Benchrest competition?

Since this is a Ruger #1....and if it still has the factory barrel....then it is a standard 6PPC USA chamber.

A 6PPC USA chamber will utilize SAKO (almost impossible to get) and Norma 6PPC USA brass. You can also use 220 Russian Lapua brass but care will need to be taken to understand whether or not you have to turn a little off the circuferance of the neck. With the lot# of lapua brass I had several years ago, I did not need to neck turn....just fireform them....but I have also heard where some have needed to be turned.

I Googled around and didn't find anything about a #1 in 6PPC. So, I was assuming that it was a custom barrel.

I looked harder and, sure enough, Hovis is right. The #1 was, it appears, offered in 6PPC in something like 1993.

Very interesting! Learn something new every day.

The ruger #1 and Ruger Varmit M77 was both available for two years in 6PPC and 22PPC. Sure wished I had bought one of each available. Would really love a #1 in 6PPC.
