Joystick rests and 20 pound rifles

I have a Seb Rest. When I adjust the tension on it so that the joystick does not move due to the weight of the gun when I let go of the joystick, the movement of the stick is very jerky.

a) Is there a cure to smooth this out? Will counterweighting the other side of the joystick help?

b) do those of you who are using a Farley rest experience this?

c) Should I use a rest like a John Loh rest (knob turning rest) instead for these heavy rifles?

The Seb rest works fine for lighter rifles, the jerkiness comes in when I use heavier ones.

Thanks for any advice.

Counterweight

I would add a counterweight .It will smooth the movement considerably and help hold the extra weight. You will need a rather heavy weight.

Andrew,

Kkuperman is dead right. I use a SEB and the front counter-balance weight has transformed it.

I'm using a weight made from a six-inch length of old barrel to balance my 17lb Light Gun. Back off the tension adjustment and the rest becomes as smooth as silk but supports the rifle.
