Jewell Trigger Rattles

I have a Jewell HVR trigger with top safety on a Rem. 700 action. The bottom linkage on the safety has a little bit of play in it and it rattles when i move the safety or walk with the gun. Is this normal and what is an easy way to fix it without doing a whole lot to the trigger. The trigger iself is great, I just need to make it be silent.

Thanks for your help.

They all rattle some. There are moving parts in them. I don't think that critters would here the rattle though.

I'd send it back to Brian at Jewell... I expect he can tighten it up some.. I have about a dozen top safety Jewells and they are not objectionable like yours..

Of course Jerry is correct, they all have some play but mine make no noise when I shake the rifle or walk or any other normal activity. Send it back with a pleasent note explaining your concern.

It looks like the holes in the linkage are too big for the studs they fit on on the lever part of the safety and the linkage has quite a bit of play. I understand the parts have to have room to operate, but the top safety has nearly 1/4" of "slop" in every direction. Is this much play common (if so i won't worry about it)? Just trying to make sure that this isn't the way it was designed, because I really would rather not take it off the gun.

Thanks again

Like Pat said i would send it back to Brian. that is way too much play. a customer of mine had a problem with his safety cam being worn a couple months back and they took care of me and fixed it for free. after the warranty was up. thats the kind of customer service that will keep me coming back

I think the easiest thing to try would be heavy grease between the rattling parts.

The next easiest thing to try would be to fire a couple of shots with the muzzle close to your head and no ear protection.

I prefer the first one. :D
