Jewell sideplay

How much sideplay of the fingerpiece is acceptable on a Jewell BR when it is cocked and ready to fire? There seems to be much more on them than the Canjars, Kenyons, 40Xs, anschutz', and even tuned M70s I have.

Thanks, and good shooting.

I'm unhappy with the one on my latest used rifle acquisition and I hope to find some shims to reduce it. Maybe somebody has a source for readily available shims.

Me to

:(I have the same problem on a used rifle I bought to. Its not as bad cocked. But whens its not boy its loose

I found some .004 and .006 shims. I should get them next week and will report the results. If they work out I will sell a 'Shim Kit' with two of each size [ 4 shims total ] for $10 postage paid. I think I will have several of these kits available.

I did use a feeler gauge to check the clearance. My older trigger has app .012" total clearance. A new in the package one I have has app .004". The new one has the bolt release and won't work without some fiddling or I would have installed it earlier in the week.

For Saturday's match I will just have to deal with a wobbly trigger.

I shimmed my Jewell triggers to eleminate sideplay by using S & W pistol trigger shims available from Brownell's. Ron Power makes a stainless shim for pistols that will do the job nicely. While you have the pins out, polish them with crocus and a Dremel tool.

The shims worked great. First I tried two of the .006 and the play was almost zero. The trigger still returned fine but I decided that when the gun gets hot or a bit dirty it might be better to have a little wiggle so I took out one .006 and replaced it with a .004. In the future I might put the .006 back in and try it.

Since I already had disassembled and cleaned this trigger I did not really need to pull the side plate so I removed the E-clip and slid the trigger pivot pin out using an allen wrench as a slave pin. I then slid the shims in from the bottom one at a time and reinstalled the pivot pin.

I have several extra sets of shims, if anyone is interested pm me.
