Mickey,
Early I lapped rings till I was blue in the face.
Then 80% of the time if I wanted to move the Scope and Rings to another rifle I had to Lap again.
Then one day I bought my boy a 10/22 and a set of BKL rings. (Did not lap)
To make a long story short I moved that scope & rings to an Anschutz and later a 40X with out touching the rings. All of a sudden it became apparent to me that Lapping was not necessary with a good set of rings if bases that were true,
Since then when I set up a rifle I spend all my time making sure the bases are true.
Net result is that I can take any scope I own with BKL rings and move it to any other rifle I own and it will usually shoot within 2 MOA horizontal and 3 MOA vertical.
(40X, Anschutz & Cooper)
I bet you will never come close with any other rings.
Now That’s my Story and I am Sticking to It!
PS single strap and not a double strap
