Jeweling a Bolt

I finished a few rifles that are built on matte black remington 700 actions and I wanted to "jazz up" of the bolt. I was thinking of buying the B-square bolt jeweling jig and brushes and having a go at one of them.
Is this jig good ??? Does anyone have some tips about jeweling ???

Do it on a mill and take................

your time, then it will turn out well. I didn't think that B-Square jig was available new anymore, but it is!! At Brownell's. There should be about 18 radial positions, I would skip about two positions when moving the radial selection after finishing a line, and I split the linear rotation of the mill table knob into thirds of a revolution (120 degrees). This gave a nice spacing from side to side as you rotated the bolt, and gave close spacing when you looked at the lines lengthways; Just experiment w/some scrap round stock. When I did mine we had a jig that was built differently and had a greater number of radial positions. Each of my bolts took in excess of 4 hours, but my rounds were much finer than necessary, and I wouldn't place them that close again. Looked great, but not practical when viewed in retrospect.;)

I appreciate the reply. Unfortunately I only have a drill press (not a mill) so I will have to make due if it is possible to make it look good on a press.

I use the B-Square jig on a drill press. I clamp a piece of 1/4 x 1" stock to the table with the jeweling brush centered on the bolt to use as a guide and overlap the swirls by 1/2 visually. I use the long marks on rotation dial. Be sure to start on the side that is on the bottom with the bolt open and to the backside with the bolt closed because the start and finish parts are not as pretty. Run your drill press at a good speed.

You need some sort of feed that will control the spacing lengthwise and you need some sort of indexing tool that will precisely rotate the bolt a fixed amount.

Otherwise you are just wasting your time...
