True story that might help. Long time ago, I cut off a barrel with a hacksaw, and evened up the barrel with a draw file. I don't remember how I cut the actual crown -- broke what little edge was there -- but it was by hand, carefully. Did I mention that I'm pretty good with a file?
It shot very well indeed.
Time passes, & me & Joel Pendergraft get a lathe & mill. Joel, anyway, has built record-setting rifles. More than one. So after a while, I figure "let's set that barrel up in the lathe & do it right..."
It only shot slightly worse. Probably because of changed barrel length, I guarantee you the machine work was first rate.
Now if you think the moral of this story is you can do work by hand that is as good as with a machine, I won't argue, but that's not it.
The moral is, if it is shooting very well indeed, leave it alone.
