We had a beautiful day for the match, with nice warm, clear, though breezy weather. Good turnout too, though a few ended up not competing, we still had a good time, and the potluck lunch was, as usual, pretty good!

Jan 18th BR results

Larry Durham 46,48,49, 46, 189/200 USFT

Chuck Thompson 48,48,45,45 186/200 USFT

Gary Grewer 44,36,45,41, 166/200 Daystate MKIII

Dave Frederic 41,44,39,41 165/200 USFT

Roger Lovett 39,42,42,42 165/200 AZ P70

Tim McMurray 44,43,47, dnf 135/150 USFT

Besides the competitors listed above, we also had the pleasure of company from Ron Jobbe, Vince Pacheco and Ian Roberts, who ended up doing some fine tuning and testing of their guns in the shooting tunnel and or over the chrono, and doing a little mechanical troubleshooting. Tim and I did a bit of advising and fiddling with the guns as well, and it appeared lots of progress was made.

Next match is scheduled for the 21st of Feb. This was our last match using the IFP style target. We will be testing out a new target format using the NRA A36 target, but with a simplified binary type scoring method. We will continue 30yd shooting, and perhaps add fifty yards should interests dictate.

Glad you had a good turn out and good weather. Nice scores shown by all. That new target sounds like it could be fun too.

LD,
Have you considered using the AGBR targets ? This would allow everyone to be on the same page as far as comparing scores across the country.

Good luck

Larry,
Thanks for posting your scores. Would love to see pictures of your benches, Guns, People. Was going to do some testing today but the foot of snow last night changed that.

AGBR targets for Temecula?

Ray,

Yes, I did consider it, and have shot some at the San Diego match. I thought I had already discussed this before, but here goes:

I want an easy to score target, because nobody really wants to take the time for a more complicated setup than adding one or two points per shot.

I also want to avoid easy perfect scores, as I think a perfect score should be nearly unobtainable.

Besides, I simply cannot get behind the concept of the .22 cal scoring plug being used for .177 guns. For me, it just goes against the grain.

And, I am trying to keep costs low, and it is my understanding that a fee must be sent somewhere for every official target fired. So far, none of the members are very interested in such sanctioning.

I hope you understand.

LD,
That's cool. I doubt that anyone will ever shoot a perfect 25X AGBR target. It is just TOO difficult to shoot an X. I can see that 250's will be common because the guns are SO accurate.

I don't know that I have an opinion about the AGBR 17 cal scoring plug. I can see pros and cons. I also shoot CF score matches and the 30's have a huge advantage over the course of a 100/200 yd match and especially over the course of a season.

I doubt AGBR would object if you used their target in non-sanctioned matches so you wouldn't have to pay the $1.00 per target sanctioning fee. You could also use your own scoring plug. I am new to being the scorer at a match so I am bad about plugging nearly every bull just to get the experience.

LD,
I'm sure you're aware that the gun I shot in the BR match was one of your hand built rifles. I thought I'd mention it as I've made 140 Hunter or US FT rifles now but the gun I shoot lately in FT and BR is an LD SS (Simple Simon #7) which is the prototype for the production guns.
It has served me well lately and I really have confidence in it. When I miss it is purely my fault. Last weekend I shot a 40 shot Silhouette course with it and did my highest score ever with a 30 ex 40.

Thanks Tim ...

Actually, I hadnt taken notice your gun that closely as we were on different relays and I was out in the patio when you were shooting. That said, I also tuned your other gun, and know it too is pretty darned accurate!

Anyhow, I hope you can make the one next month, and shoot the entire match!

That is the plan

I really appreciate being able to shoot a match I don't have to run. When you started doing the third Sunday BR match on the same day as I ran the IFP match @ Angeles it gave me the opportunity to shoot without doing the administrative stuff.
I'll try to show up early enuf to shoot the whole event this month. I'm thinking about doing up a Hunter Upright just for BR so I don't have to reconfigure my US FT every time.
