Just a thought my Pappas Noodle has arrive and i was looking for some info on how best to set it up which is why i was contacting James so if anyone has any info would real glad of it.
James instructions for the short noodle are to start at 50 and test each click to 60. If you don't hit it try 45-50. As a last resort call him and find out how to adjust the air ports. You must have the blue washer on the noodle. James says sometimes two washers are better.
I did that, used one washer, and settled in on 53 for my Anschutz 54 factory barrel. But and a big but I closed the window (my range is outside my office window) just before reading this thread having run through a complete Hopewell tuner test using the short noodle. A setting of 53 was my baseline group. After running through it I have now settled on 204 as giving me the tightest group ( I found 53 based on minimal vertical spread). Its windy here today so I will verify when it calms down. Optimal setting will be somewhere between 200 and about 210 with one blue washer.
With the tuner set on 53 my best PSL indoor target was a 2350 in competition. I have been unable to shoot a 2000+ on the PSL outdoors, thus the retesting. I've only got a week to get it right before Kettlefoot but its getting there. Your settings may vary considerably from mine. bob finger
Fred might be on to something. In my testing I did find that the setting with and without the noodle were very close to each other. In my case it was a new tuner so I did not know the non noodle setting initially. Wonder if everyone has that experience? I have lots more testing to do before I come to any conclusions. I do believe in the noodle tho! bob finger
thanks guys for the updates i will have to a fare bit of testing with and without by the sounds of it so will keep you posted how i get on with my 1913.
Pappas is in ICU from the Carotid Artery surgery he had yesterday. They had a little trouble, but he is doing fine now. He should be in a regular room sometime today and hopefully home tomorrow.
James is doing great, he is quite resiliant. He is lookn forward to going home, and seeing his grandchildren. thank you all for your prayers and wishes.
Normal tuner setting, was 250 with and extra 6 oz of weight. James suggested setting the tuner on 50 and use one washer to start. If it didn't do well. then add the seconc blue washer(gasket). I did, amd I won. I did some fine tuning at a practice session, and tried several other settings, but I think i'm going back to 50.
I just got my Harrel Style Tuner and Jpappas Noodle and as far as I know I am the first in the UK to have the Noodle and look forward to testing, but what I wanted to do was comment on the workmanship.
I have had a couple of other tuners and I have to say that this is far exceeds them in the workmanship; the quality is something else, especially in the finish. The detail in the work is 100%. I am glad I got the small Noodle as I think that I would have people say to me that I have an advantage being closer to the target than others.
You guys should be proud to have such great engineers and craftsman in the USA. I will be attending an exhibition on the 23rd of this month which is one of the biggest in the UK calendar and I will be showing this off to the UK shooters as I am sure that there will be loads of interest as they will have never seen anything like this.
I know James is not well and I would like to praise him publicly for his work and I hope that with testing it will meet the same standards of his craftsmanship.
Thank you so much James for a wonderful piece of kit.
