It's a sellers market

If ya still have that ol' dog that just won't hunt, has the pedigree's and trained by one o' them name brand trainers, well now is the time to bust 'em out onto the tradin' block.

As the future is airguns, looks like my Turbo and Annie may have to go.

Seeing as to how it's a sellers market, expect them to be high priced.

If you wanted a package deal with scopes, and shipped in hard cases, well I figger around $13k is my asking price for the whole deal. Only the 14th email offer will be considered.

Oh, and if my email box is full, keep trying. ;)

Some of you guys really and truly are funny. There's a line a mile long with folks willing to pony up $11,500 for the man's rifles. you just don't get it. Thanks, Douglas

I guess if one is born every minute, it could add up to a mile...8>)

Oh no Douglas, I get it.

Is it good for the sport? Don't think so.

Do you?

If so, my guess is you have a couple or more cases of that Lapua that was supposed to gaurantee a win.

The camaraderie, the understanding of an even playing field, the fun, seems to be gone at the upper levels of the game. So be it, maybe that is the way the guys at the top want to play. Not my idea of a good, fun, family oriented thing to do.

But that seems to the the ultimate end of "games" in this era. Win at all cost, or lose (finish second).

We are still having fun here in So Cal, and if it ever gets any different, we can take the group down to the Over the Line Tournaments and have more fun than you all can imagine. :D

Probably neither good or bad for the sport because it's not the norm and is unlikely to become the norm. But Gordon, if it was your gun and you could get $11,500 out of it and you knew you could, would you sell it for less? You know "for the good of the sport".

The Question Is......

Gordon, the big question is, "is it good enough to beat KIrk Gastons $3000.00 rifle"? If it can't I don't think many of them will be sold at that price, do you?

Since I remember you're scores I'll give you $600 for everything...you keep the ammo you were shooting.

Well thanks Timmy, you have been around awhile, but I thought most folks would not remember when I was shooting 249's in RBA when there was only one 250 that had ever been shot.

But my focus is on Airguns now, cause I can get the same pellets that you can. Kind of eliminates that East Coast advantage.

Get with the program and go powderless, you for sure have enough hot air to render the need for an air tank pointless. GG

Gordon, with all due respect, I think you're off base on this one. We all know this is a money race, but like James says, the $3K gun can win just the same as the $11K gun. You liKe air guns and that's good, no money race there? Thanks, Douglas

James,
A serious question, what would a gun with a match record like Kirks be worth on the 2nd hand market??

Down here there is not much of a premium put on the price of winning guns, just curious.

Peter

Not to change the direction of the thread but.....

Not to change the direction of the thread but, Dearl Lanes multiple ARA Nationals winners were for sale a couple of months ago.....anyone know if they sold, and if so who wound up with them?

Gordon, good luck selling your rifles, I have no problem with anyone getting as much as someone is willing to pay for thier stuff, including Calfee, thats how it works.

Charlie

Just talked to Kirk

The rifle is not for sale( not even to the third fax ). Kirk said he is having too much fun with it to sell it. Let's put it this way, $10,000 would not buy it ,right now.

i've been gone from benchrest central about five years.....the bill calfee love hate relationship was sprouting back then...now it's a full blown tree!!

the man i have my own opinion about, the price of his guns are rediculous to me, but my friends think i'm nuts for owning an M class mercedes.....i wanted it, i like it and it does the job in style....the public can control prices , just simply
stop buying the product.....it would'nt take long for mercedes to get the idea
if their show rooms stayed full.
this last third fax only gun is probably the Best publicity Stunt ever pulled of on this site..when it should be the worst scandal....
this is turning into a soap opera....and as one guy says "is this site best served "

I'm typically off base Douglas. But that 3k gun, and I quote a reliable source, could not be had right now for 10k. So there has been a quantum leap in the high end stuff.

And it does take about 2k for a top end air rifle, perhaps the same thing would happen if everybody sold their .22's and got into the airguns.

But it is a sellers market, just look at how few .22rf bench guns are in the classifieds. Man, I remember times when you had your choice of more than 50in the rimfire classifeds here.

A sellers market drives prices up, so I would expect not only the very top end to escalate, but for the top end to pull the good rifles up along with them.

Good? Bad? I choose the latter.......

Alot of us have heard this before. Larry Brown shut down BR-50 for rimfires and went to air rifles only. The rimfire people went to ARA and IR 50/50 and Larry kept the 20 people that wanted to shoot air rifles. I don't think most rimfire shooters are interested in air rifles. Just my opinion.

Good Lord, James, how did you understand my post to be advocating Airguns over .22 rimfire?

And implying that I am somehow like Larry Brown, well that is just mean. :D

Quote Gordon "The future is airguns". Gordon, I would never call anyone Larry Brown.

Where would anybody get the idea you're promoting airguns over rimfire?

Had no idea that you guys were sooo sensitive on that idea. The main thrust of the thread was that there are no rimfire guns for sale in the classifieds (ok, ok, there are 7). When supply drops and demand remains basically the same, the prices go up. And apparently they can go way up.

I, me personnally, have changed my focus to Airguns. I also think that eventually the powder burners will be either legislated, or priced into extinction. Until that time I too will enjoy shooting .22 benchrest. That is my opinion. I am not trying to convince anyone else to share my feelings. I really could not care less if you do or don't, cause that is your opinion and you all have a God given right to 'em. That, also, is my opinion.

So perhaps we can just let the airgun thing fade away, and somebody tell me why there are 7 guns for sale instead of 50? And I see one that the owner is asking $5,000 for, is that a harbinger of things to come?

p.s. nice job of cut and paste Beau, you can make a sound bite and take things out of context like a veteran politico...;)

Thanks Gordon. You're not so bad at the politico game yourself; "I said that but it was taken out of context and was not what I meant to say."
