Is there any hope for a Marlin T-900 trigger?

I just purchased a Marlin 981T to get started in rimfire factory sport class. Several people recommended that I start out with a 10/22, but I wanted something a little better.

The Savage mark II BTVS looked good, and the display Accutrigger trigger felt good for a stock trigger. Another gun store owner recommended that I stay away from the Savage and said that the Marlin had a better barrel; something needed for shooting small groups.

I purchased the Marlin, and after getting it home and checking out the trigger...am very dissapointed. Can I get a good trigger for this rifle, or should I get a different fire arm for bench rest sport class?

Thank you,
Jim

Marlins are great guns

People will tell ya all kinds of stuff. The 10-22 is easier to customize. Stocks barrels triggers. etc. The Marlin I have is surgically accurate. The 981-T has a tube fed magazine not good for bench shooting. The Savage costs more and has a better trigger if you get the heavy barrel target model.
These guys shoot very expensive match rifles suhls, Aushutz etc.
Would Probably recomend a CZ452.

If your shooting targets off a bench and plinking squirrels the rifle you have is ok. For the price. If you want to try local competition. Remove the tube magazine bed in the stock shoot single shot. Add a fixed 36x BSA Scope and the following trigger. Try some remington Thunderbolt ammunition. Practice.

the savage without the accutrigger was a no brainer. there is a company that makes a match grade trigger that goes down to 10 oz.s for it. there is no chance in hell it will shoot with our custom made rifles, but if your in a class for factory rifles with nothing but factory barrels you do stand a big chance of winning if there is a price limit on the rifles. if there is no price limit people will be getting the suhls and annie's and dusting your butt. this game isn't cheap and to be even remotely compatative your ganna have to pay to play.

here is the link to the savage trigger. http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/ click on triggers. you'll find it. again if there is no price limit on rifles get a high end rifle.

I got my Marlin 980's trigger down to a clean 16 oz. by using a Rifle Basix trigger and replacing the original spring with something lighter. Isn't the 981 tube fed?

Yes the 981 is tube fed. Can I make it a single shot? How well does your 980 shoot? Will it compete with other rifles in factory sport class?

Remove the tube bed the action area to make it a single shot add glass to tube location in stock.

I have a Marlin 22 magnum at 200yds clay pigeons and pieces of the original clay pigeons with 3x9 mildot CCI Maxi Mag fmj ammunition. It will remove most anything at 100yds as velocity is like 22lr muzzle.

Accuracy several 5-8shot groups inside a dime 50-100yds.

It outshoots some of my custom guns without reloading ammunition.

At 65yds I made a necklace. 1 Penny covered with duct tape 1 round for hold off with the mil dot scope then 3 rounds through abes head. File the back down add a jump ring. Its my necklace.

I've shot pencils in the eraser and through a target at 100yds.

With a factory Ruger 10-22 22 lr used to shoot for the primers in shot gun shells placed in boxes at 100yds. Impact verified launches shotgun shell through the box.

Friend of mine used to throw lifesavers candies in the air and break them with a 10-22. We used to drink and hunt rattlesnakes together in High School.

Its a good gun just practice. Go to local shoots.
