Is the NF Benchrest worth $550 more than the Siii 10-50?

I sold my Vortex Razor and am picking up a new scope for long range paper punching, 600+ yards. I've been reading input on the 10-50 Siii but have also been looking at the NF Benchrest. I can get the Sightron for $850 but the NF is closer to $1400. Both are Japanese made, is there something significantly better about the NF? I'm not that concerned about the addition of the illumination.

Ok I got a better quote than expected on the Nightforce. The price difference is $450 between the SIII in 10-50 and the Nightforce Benchrest 12-42.

the nf 12-42 can be had used on various forums for about $1100
the 15-55x not so much....few deals.
nothing wrong with a 12-42x if you can make weight.

imho yes wait and save ..cry once

Compare the earnings of the horse that wins the Kentucky Derby to the one in second or third place. That horse is maybe, just maybe 1% faster, but he is worth 2 or 300% more to the owner. Maybe far more than even that. Optics are similar. You can see through an object through a $50 Tasco, just like a $2000 NF. Is the NF 1000% better. Not really, but it's the difference that makes the difference, so to speak. There is certainly nothing wrong with Sightron Siii 10x50. But I own 4 NF Competition 15x55s. Do I think they are worth that 5% difference? I sure do.

Well I ended up going the used route and just bought a like new Nightforce 12-42x56 with the NP-R2 reticle for $1080 shipped off Gunbroker. Hope I like it.

Rick, at Madison, a $2,000 NF might be 1000% more than a $50 Tasco, and a NF Competition might be only 5% more than an $850 Sightron; however, at most other places those percentages are much greater. :)

I might agree, but I'd have to read this 4 or 5 more times and see if I understand. You sound like my wife about Madison. I remind her that I live in Goodlettsville now.

very wise choice and easy to resell if you bow out.
now go order some 30mm burris signature z rings.
the inserts will allow some tilting to add distance to your sight pic.
maybe a egw base.

Ok I'm looking at the Burris Signature Zee rings and the heights make no sense. The medium is .78, the high is .80 and the extra high is 1.02. Do they really expect us to believe the high rings are only .020" taller than the medium rings, that's just over 1/64".

I'll probably end up with the extra high rings. I had .95 tall rings on the previous scope with a 50mm objective and rubber caps and it was close to the barrel. With the 1.02 extra highs it will still be close to the barrel I think especially with the sun shade, might not even be able to use the shade. I have an adjustable cheek rest to adjust if needed.
