Fellas i just purchased a couple reamers from a fella, and one was supposed to be un used. Well on the supposed un-used reamer i found some metal savings under the pilot bushing. Hmm!! Well maybe it was used?? They both feel just fine as far as being sharp but how is one really supposed to know? Im sure they both are fine, but is there anything i can look for on the reamer itself to get an idea as to how much it was actually used?
One reamer is a JGS 1045 with a 60 freebore and i am thinking it will be a good match for my stash of original fowler bullets or even my current stash of ulrich little uglies. The other is a PTG reamer and it has a 55 freebore. Actually they are almost identical. The print i was shown for this reamer isnt the print that goes with this reamer at all. I was under the impression i was buying a reamer with a 40 free bore. Oh well thats how it goes some days! Once i know for sure the reamer is ok i might horse trade for a shorter freebore reamer. No real need for two identical reamers. Lee
Would anyone here know what harrels die i should get for the JGS 1045? I understand that this is a very common reamer. Any other information one might want to share about a JGS 1045? Thanks again! Lee
