I was wondering if H50BMG is a single or double base powder. If it's a single base what is an average shelf life if properly stored.

It is a single base powder. The trouble with some of the re canistered powder numbers, is you just don't know. It used to be that what we called 5010 and 870 were not what the manufacture used at all. Lots of surplus powder numbers fall into this category.

Storage life of any lot of powder (single base). Here comes a shock, we always read about how to store powder, do you ever read about how the particular lot of powder you have was stored before you bought it, and for how long? How many years did this lot set before it was sold out of government ownership? How old is the powder from date of manufacture from the day you bought the powder?

Powders sold to the U.S Navy, here is a fun deal for you. Did you know that aboard ships, magazine temperatures are regulate by sea water. What is the long term effect?
