I live in California, and am aware of this only today. 60% of the gas used in this state comes from the oil wells in California. With that said, why do we have the highest gas prices in the nation? There is an estimated 9 Billion barrels of oil below down town L.A. They say they will very soon be able to extract it at full capacity. What's up with the prices?????
 
I have no idea.....

.....but don't you guys on the left coast have a special refinery process for special left coast gas?? For some reason I thought it was different than ours....it has always cost more, correct??

I know you have california emmissions to deal with??

Seriously, EVERYTHING is more expensive over there.......you should see what a $200,000 house can get you in this area.

as a $200,000.00 house in Ca. Maybe a 1 bedroom condo.
 
Same $$$ will get you a +/- 4 bedroom....

2,500sq ft home with a good yard for the same $$$$$

The way gas price works.

If oil is selling on the open market for say $120.00 per barrel that becomes the going price.
Why would any company or anyone else for that matter, regardless of cost, sell it to you for say $60.00 if they could sell it elsewhere for $120.00?

We are paying an average of $4.63 per gallon for regular unleaded.
Where else in the country are these prices being charged. How much are you paying in your state?
 
And it has been added

to the cost of oil also. Mobil/Exxon has increased the cost of a quart of oil by 17%, Shell 13%, Texaco 11%. Because AMSOIL uses a synthetic base stock, their prices have not changed. The rest are petroleum based. Obviously the price per barrel of oil has nothing to do with the difference in cost at the pump.

regular was at $4.17 this morning. I still believe its a supply and demand thing with local regulations affecting final price.
 
I wish I lived closer to Mexico so I could get fuel at about half the price we pay here. Interesting how that works!!! You can pick up your medication too! :rolleyes:

Yeah, government is great, huh? Yet you want more of it. Makes no sense to me.
 
The Government of Mexico subsidizes the price of gasoline.

However, the money must come from somewhere, and the Mexican Govt get's its money from where? The tax payer. So they pay what we pay for gas, but they pay part of it in taxes not collected at the pump.
