For a 6mm bore is a 3 grove barrel tougher on bullet jackets ? My Hart 6x284 BBL is about shot out . I like variety so thinking of different BBL maker Either 3 grove button rifled our 5R cut rifled or a Krieger style cut rifled ? I want a fast bbl.
No.
Actually the lands and grooves are wider and there are less angles and corners. The principle as I understand it is wider (thicker) lands and grooves mean the throat lasts longer. Less angles and corners mean less places for fouling to collect and therefore makes for easier cleaning. I've never heard a concern on being harder on bullets but my own thoughts are that again with less edges there are less pressure points on the of points of barrel impact on the bullet so if anything it should be easier on the bullet.
Personal opinion only but I have 7 or 8 three groove barrels and have grown very fond of them. All of them are sub.22 caliber and some drive bullets to hyper velocity and still maintain outstanding accuracy with no bullet problems.
Very easy to clean ( I am a break in freak so that could be part of that), I've yet to loose accuracy due to throat wear (verdict is still out on that one as I'm also a clean often and don't overheat barrels freak).
I love em.
