George, very sorry to hear of your physical issues. Prayers to you for a speedy recovery.

Your name, and many other significate names, were not on the list of competitors this year at the IR UL Indoor Nationals. Not surprising or a good sign of the sanctioning body's support. Participation was dismal for a UL Indoor National at Piney Hill. To answer your question about results, they have been posted earlier today on the IR website, complete, if you haven't seen them already. Thanks to Tim Swonger (dogtrialerguy) for posting them here. Normally for an IR National, there would have been posts during the entire weekend for the tournament.........but not his year.

I hope the sanctioning body understands that the decreasing participation in IR, in all classes, is directly associated with the lack of minding the store by the owner of IR. Promises not kept, bending over a dollar bill to pick up a dime (which will most likely cost him more lost revenue than just paying a professional to revamp the website in the first place), lack of communication with match directors at times (which I MD two clubs running 3 matches a month for IR and have been quite vociferous about defending the owner, although did NOT get timely responses on several issues I had), and other associated issues. I personally can't defend the owner anymore until he gets his act together.

I will say that when I tell someone 'this or that' is going to happen, it happens without having to wait forever for it to do so. If I can't do what I say I can do in a reasonable amount of time, I don't say I can. This is not a character trait of the current owner of IR from what I have seen this year. He bent over to a cheap resolve to his website, and now he is paying and loosing revenue because of it. Lowest number I have seen for the IR UL Nationals.

In light of that and before, I have told the sanctioning body that unless things get better, the 2025 season will be my last season match directing for IR. My clubs and shooters pay for something they aren't getting.....administrstion and data exhibited on a national website. The 2024 season is almost over and we still don't have HOF points posted since 2022. How much did that dime cost over the dollar? A fricken bunch!

I will also say, my opinions here and my lack of participation at the IR UL Indoor Nationals have nothing to do with each other. I am not a fan of IR UL. The target was designed for Sporter and 3-Gun and is way too easy for UL rifles and one piece rests. I choose to shoot the 'original' IR........3-Gun and Sporter.

In my opinion, and I have a bit of experience in both of the major sanctioned RFBR sanctioning bodies and been a MD for both. IR 3-Gun and Sporter are the best reflections of how good a RFBR shooter really is. I have no doubt that the best IR shooters in the above mentioned classes could do very well in ARA UL, and that has been proven by shooters like Fred Sears, Tony Harper, Tim Miller and many others. All who have had excellent careers in both sanctioning bodies.

I am hopeful the 2025 season brings positive advancements to the administration of IR. With all the history, the exceptional shooters, and the just plain fun of shooting good scores on a target that was designed for the 'purist' of what IR really is, I hope it survives.

Congrats to Don Kowalsky for his perfect score and high X count of the tournament this last weekend at the IR Indoor UL Nationals. Shooting indoors has an interesting set of putting the best strategy together with a lot of ammo that will shoot indoors. Don obliviously had both. I have only shot that venue once, and it can be tough.

Sincerely,
Scott Albury

I think having it a couple weeks earlier than last year didn't help anything either. This year the outdoor ARA matches in the area were still going on. Holding the shoot mid to late November may help. JMO

Damn shame but everything you said was pretty much spot on. Noticed that last set of promises unfulfilled. Please….somebody step up and buy the org before this guy runs it entirely into the dirt.

Well my thoughts are, I understand the 3 gun, the sporter. I get it.
I have no interest in the 3 gun or a sporter Right Now. Maybe one day in the future.
I really enjoy shooting the UL and I don’t think the target is too easy. I’ve shot a few matches where 240-249’s. They ain’t all 250’s.
We have also been having a lot of fun with the factory class. They actually asked me about three times to come to a factory class match. I really wasn’t interested, just didn’t seem like It would be something that I was interested in at all. Then I went to one. We had a blast. Some people are really entry level with a Ruger, Savage, CZ. Others are quite serious with 40X’s, Anschutz, Win52’s. Ect. The competition is tough and you really don’t want to get beat by that guy with the Ruger shooting CCI’s. So we actually have been having a decent turn out for that factory match and we have been having a good time with it. I know some seek fame and fortune or maybe just fame. lol.
So I’ve been having a good time shooting UL and that Factory class. Both of which a IR purists would maybe consider blasphemy. So IDK.

Frank,
As long as you are having fun you are doing it right.
Some guys including me get caught up in the competition that they forget this is supposed to be fun.
I’m getting better about it but it may take a 12 step program to cure me.

Well Tony there is nothing wrong with being a serious competitor and taking it seriously.
Winning matches, tournaments, nationals and being a top HOF shooter. Congratulations to those who have achieved it. But alienating those who are not that skill level or can’t afford to compete at that level could lead to the demise of it. I feel fortunate to be able to do what I can do. If I could afford to do it all I might have a few more Rifles and shoot more matches. That doesn’t mean I would be successful but would try to. I have to pick what I can afford to do and what I think makes me happy, Right now it’s UL and playing around in the factory class. Several people who show up and shoot that factory class are not BR shooters and never intend to be. They are just enjoying shooting their 22LR, and it’s nice to see but you have to up your game or you’ll get beat by a Ruger. So yea I enjoy the Rifles and shooting them and don’t think too much about anything else.

I do really enjoy the friendly competition. Like a little razing and banter back and forth in a fun way. I think we kind of have that at Fairchance. Sometimes when it gets too serious it looses the fun part.
Did you guys notice, you probably didn’t even see it. I was a head of you guys in Yards at the nationals. There is a lot more of that coming 😀. Yea I got crushed at meters and you guys ended up near the top again. I’m looking to be more competitive next season.outdoors.

Scott:

I know you have tried to defend Jason and give him some slack but that train left the station a long time ago.

The pathetic support for the Indoor UL Nationals is a pretty good barometer of how shooters feel about this miserable state of affairs.

I'm sorry you weren't able to stick around for the "meeting" after the Outdoor Nationals in September... I think there were 6 of us that stayed. What did we learn? According to Jason things are going great! I'm not kidding you... Apparently, the clubs in California and Florida are happy so there you go.

At the meeting he assured us the Hall of Fame points from 2023 would definitely be up in October and your comments about promises not kept continue to define him.

It's hard to imagine shooting any 50/50 matches in the future.

Bruce Hornstein
