Interesting Calfee tuner article.

Bryce,

We're familiar with it, it's the root of all the contention.

If it gets pulled off the board don't feel bad, think "copyright laws".... :) .....altho that may not be the case since PS is featured in the pic...

CharlesE would know.

BTW Bryce, here's the actual difference in the two contentions. I quote Bill, from the article.

quote >>> "But Bill, are you trying to tell us that a bullet can approach the parallel node, or dead spot as you call it, at an angle caused by the full cycle, then be straightened up enough in that little short parallel node to cause an increase in accuracy? Absolutely I am!"

I further dissect the quote >>>> "straightened up enough in that little short parallel node to cause an increase in accuracy" .......

"straightened up" is the effect of ELIMINATING the compensation mechanism........

Bill doesn't feel that barrels compensate for velocity differences, but that instead they're "stopped from their tendency of throwing shots around".

I figured a bunch would have seen it, I hadn't and it made understanding what Bill was saying easier with simple to follow clearly labelled pictures.

It has convinced me of Bill's theory if indeed he is accurate about the "partial node" existing beyond the muzzle. If that is how a barrel will always vibrate then it seems the tuner must be beyond the muzzle to place or nearly place a parallel node at tha muzzle.

Anyway, thought it might be worth reading for anybody that hadn't seen it.

No problem if it is pulled for copyright reasons, didn't think of that.

Well, I'm not an expert on copyright law -- but its 99 out of 100 that either Precision Shooting or Bill Calfee holds the copyright, and I'd expect it to be PS. They would have subsidiary rights in any case, so since it is on their website, I'd guess they won't sue themselves. The only thing on BR Central is a URL link; no problem with that.

Edit: Oh, I see it isn't the PS website. It may just be a link to PS -- Still, the only thing on BR Central is a URL link. I would think no problem, but maybe we're into Mike Marcelli's field; the law has little to do with common sense.

Re your last post Al, that is where I think Bill is wrong. With a forward mount tuner you could "stop" the muzzle by placing the parallel node at the muzzle but that wouldn't cut the vertical.

Other than that I reckon he is on the money and the rear mount tuner will never achieve the same effect.

Just my take on it, like I said I have nothing but an enquiring mind and a little logic to base my opinion on.

I stand corrected :)

I didn't realize that it was from PS' website, I read something about "ozfclass" in the tagline.

I'm remarkably computer illiterate....

thanx Charles

The funniest thing about the "parallel node" thing is that it reminds me of the old "watch me bend this pencil" trick from grade school. You hold the pencil loosely about 2" from the tip and wave your hand up and down...............the pencil exhibits a perfect "parallel node" :)
