Interesting BR gun from a Remington 504

Ok guys, I know this is really out of the norm for a BR rifle but it is pretty interesting. This guy used a 504 action and bolted down the barrel leaving the action free floated. I thought it was kind of a neat idea.

Let me know what you think?

I like it. Seems to me there was some discussion about that way of mounting to the stock that was touched upon in the tuner/ barrel vibration discussions. Someone here did something similar but had resilient material installed between the block halves and the barrel or maybe it was the action. Might have been a rail unit.

Ed Shilen

I saw Ed Shilen do one that way. He glued the barrel the the bedding sleave. Never did see it shoot.

Hey tackdriver

It's a neat idea---But How Does It Shoot? Fred

I'm shooting a match tomorrow with a man who has been using that set up for a few years. His is a shul. And yes it does shoot. Very well.

I don't know yet, haven't had a chance to take it out. Just got it together last week and put a primer coat on the stock. But I'll let you guys know.

There is a Gentleman on "Smallbore Accuracy.com" by the name of Jeffory Madison that builds an (Action Tuner) just for that type of mounting, do contact Him.

Barrel Block

I bought one a year ago and it shot well but just had it redone and got it back about a month ago I can tell you that I just thought it shoot well tell I got it back and can tell you it shoots verry well indoors or out in cold or warm it is a Remington 37 Action with a hart barrel done in African Obechie Wood, they made a new barrel block for it cause they could not get the old one out of the other stock and that mit be the differance, I hope to have it at Frog Level if I get to go to the next shoot

Interesting set up to say the least. I hope it shoots well for you. Please keep us posted.
As an experiment, years ago I attempted to bed the barrel and float the little action of my 541 while I was reworking the factory prone stock to ride the bags better. I'd read an article from the Dec '92 PS that Larry Brown had written about his Targetech BR-50 "Hotrods". They were using a Davidson sleeve on the 541 actions and then letting the sleeve ride on the stock on some type of resilient material. Once the goop that they bedded the barrels in set up they could remove the action screws. Not really floating the action but interesting if nothing else. I'd still like to find one of those Targetech 541's just play around with. There has to be one out there somewhere. On my rifle I couldn't go to the exteme that they did and found that having the action floating induced way to much vibration. So I ended up just adding a second action screw and bedding it the traditional way and I'm still having fun with it today.
