Installing Rifle Basix Sear on M77

I've talked myself into swapping out the standard factory sear on my M77 (tang safety), with a Rifle Basix sear. I'm really new to this type of thing, and am looking for advise/direction on how this replacement project is done. What tools will I need, and what can I expect to run into?

Does the new sear require any "woking", or is it a drop in replacement that's ready to go? It states the trigger pull from 14 oz to 2 lbs. How does it adjust?

I haven't got the nerve up to take the gun apart yet. I figured I would try to gather as much information as posible while I'm waiting on the new sear to arrive, then tear into it. Is there anything I need to be aware of/watch out for/etc?

The M77 is a bull barreled 22-250. It's 25 years old or so, but spent its entire life waiting in a gun safe for me to come along. Have spent two mornings at the range, and know it needs trigger work. It's shooting tight groups, but will pull one due to jumping the trigger home that last little bit.

Thanks for the help.
Dave

Any advise would be appreciated.

Rifle Basix trigger

dustertoo: Not the exact same rifle, but I installed a Rifle Basix trigger on my Ruger mdl. 77 Varmint MK 11, with the side, 3 position safety. I too was uneasy about attempting the work, ( mechanical ability is average at best), but all went well. Their step by step directions & clear pictures are easy to follow: whole job took about 1 hr. I'm sure a "professional" would have done it a lot faster, but I took my time. Turned a factory 5.5# trigger with creep into a creep-free 1.5#. tried to go just a lettle lower, but firing pin would drop when closing the bolt normally. Backed-off just a little & I can "slam" the bolt closed, safety functions 100%, etc. Was so happy with the Rifle Basix, installed one in my pre-accutrigger Savage mdl.10FP: it also turned out to be a vast improvement. And during the whole process, feel like I learned at least a little about the inner workings of a trigger.

I found the complete installation instructions, complete with pictures, on the Rifle Basix web site. Looks easy enough.

The installation is complete. It was just as easy as you said it would be. Adjusted to 2-1/2 lbs. I'm not sure if it would go lower or not, I stopped due to the threads of the set screw beginning to peak out of the face of the trigger. I'll be taking the gun to the field as well as the bench, so 2-1/2 is probably about right for me anyway.

Haven't shot it yet, but it feels right. Did the bump test, etc., so I think everything is in order.

Thanks

Ruger trigger

dustertoo: If you have not already gone to the range, when you do, take some basic tools with you. I had to do some "fine tuning" on the Savage trigger, and did not discover it 'til I tried to shoot. Turned out, I had the sliding safety tolerences too close, and the rifle would not fire, go back home, dis-assemble, adjust, then back to the range. The adjustment was so simple I could have done it at the range, but, no tools. That was with the Savage: Ruger, no problems.
