Talked today with a gunsmith that learned his trade at Hart Barrels (PJ Hart). I was telling him about a 40x 1956 rimefire I had picked-up in April this year.He said that Clyde Hart & Mike Walker from Remington installed Hart barrels on the 722 brought out in 1955 1956
and barrels had a H stamped on them another fellow this evening told me they had a Heart shaped stamp on barrel. has any one heard of this. I have tried getting close-ups of markings maybe some one could pipe in.These are the only markings I could find on Barrel or action, serial numbers match on this rifle

That could be a Hart barrel Mike and Clyde were good friends But I doubt Clyde would have done it for Remington on a comercial basis. It is possable that Mike may have contracted a barrel put on by Clyde though.
Everyone wanted a Hart Small bore barrel back then. Hart barrels were and still are setting records.
You could ask Jerry Hart though. give the shop a call. i'm sure he would answer your question..

Hart barrels on Factory Rem.

There was a thread a few months ago about the use of Hart barrels on Remington rifles. I doubt that Hart furnished barrels for Remington factory rifles. The heart stamp was a proof /inspection mark used by Remington for quite some time. Sorry, but the heart mark does not mean a Hart barrel. Good shooting...James

There was also an anchor proof /inspection stamp used by Remington for quite some time in the 50's. Every gunshow dealer says, "It's a US Navy acceptance stamp!"

Factories buy a box of various stamps. They know to whom each stamp is issued. This way if a bad gun goes out the door, when it comes back for repair, they know who passed it. I know this because in a previous life, I too carried a proof /inspection stamp (not related to firearms manufacturing).

No, the items what carried my stamp didn't come back!
