I've been working with a new rifle for about a week and have two different loads with two diferent weight bullets that were pretty much in perfect tune.

It shot extremly well all week and all day yesterday until after the last time I cleaned it. Now it wont shoot a decent group anymore with either load. I checked the rings and action screws. When I tweaked both loads up and down a couple tenths on the charge it only got worse.

It seems strange since the scope is new but now it is the prime suspect. I will try a different scope today to verify but is there anything else I could be missing?

The scope seems to be tracking like it should but I think POI is moving. Is there any fix for this because I have a match next weekend and wont have time to send it off and they dont make them anymore since its a Weaver T6. I only have today to work with the rifle before next the match.

The rifle is a Kodiak action 30X47, kelbly rings, T6 scope, the barrel has about 450 rounds through it now.

Where should I start? Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

There are times

On a given range, there are times when you just can't shoot a group. I hope this is the case.

Wilbur, I hope that is the case as well. Im going to start fresh today.

FBecigneul, I've been using WS2 coated bullets since break in was complete so I only clean about every 75 rounds in this gun. Accuracy was'nt dropping off when I cleaned it, but there was a cease fire and I had nothing better to do. No scope checkers around that I know of. I will put on another scope that I have confidence in to check with, but it cant stay there for the match because it exceeds the 6x rule with HBR.

If the scope is the problem, and a person had the will to take apart a scope and try to find the culprit for movement what are the odds of getting it back together in working order? Or would it end up in the trash?

Thanks.

After 450 rounds on a 30x47 barrel do you think it could already be time to change the seating depth out farther? I really dont want to change any settings on the die unless I have to because it was doing so well and the Wilson die is not a micrometer top with easy repeatable settings. I dont have a bore scope but with a flashlight I cant really see any issues?

Basicly what Im asking is would you change the scope first or seat the bullet out a little farther first?

before you take off the scope

before you remove the scope...run the adjustments all the way end to end and try it again. Many times this will fix (at least temporarily) a POI problem.

Some bushings to fit under the top of the seater which were made by Skip Otto are cheaper and more reliable than a micrometer top IMHO. Just checked Sinclair's website, and the shims are still available but the ones you'd need are out of stock - it said temporarily as of Nov '05.

Ok, I will clean the gun more often. I guess the scope is the issue because I tried running the adjustments from end to end. First the elevation all the way up and down and didnt crank it to hard or fast. Then the windage went from one side and half way back then around the middle it stopped tracking at all. It wont go left or right now.

Any temporary fixes for that until I can send it back to Weaver?

Are the Sightron 6x scopes any good? I think I can get one of those locally from Ron Hoehn. I prefer the 1/8 dot over the fine X hair, but in a pinch I will live with it.
