If my OAL guage shows bullet seating...

that is substantially below recommended OAL, is the bullet "shootable" from that barrel? I have a 6XC, 8 twist, and just got a box of 107's to try. The comparator shows the 2.6 inch to the lands. Guys, the bullet is really buried in that case (1.9 inch) . I'm thinking about 38g R17, w/Norma brass & federal primer. I have not run into this before and would appreciate some insight.

Thanks,
Michael

Well Michael, here it is tomorrow already. I had hoped by now someone with more experience than I would have something to add. My 'guess' is that your chamber has a short throat for use with lighter (shorter) bullets. If that is the case, why so in an 8 twist barrel? Can't answer that, I would be very careful about seating the 107 gr. bullets to deep however.

Tried it anyway...

Started with 2.49 OAL, 34 Grains R17 with the Sierra 107 & Norma Brass. Worked up to 38 grains and 2950 Fps, no signs of pressure...but best accuracy was 36 Grains @ 2790 Fps. I'll just have to stop myself from looking at the cartridge when I load, and I don't think I will be pushing for land speed records with this combo. I agree, short throat & 8 twist??
