The International Benchrest Shooters Association Shooter of the Year rankings for the 2012 season have recently come to my attention. I would like to give a "high five" and a "shout out" to three of my good friends and fellow shooters. I am happy for all three of them and proud to have competed with them at the Missouri club. They finished first, second and third in total points earned for the year. You win points by winning relays and matches throughout the season at "IBS" sanctioned matches.
Third overall was Jim Bauer with 20.79 points. Jim is a past National Champion, he won it in 2010. Jim is from Kansas and comes to the Mo. matches.
I first met him and his wife Sally at the Pella, Iowa club back in '08 or '09.
Here's picture of Jim with one of his targets from last summer at the Show Me Benchrest range in Missouri. A score of 50 with 2X's would make me smile too.
This is Jim with his heavy gun. I also have a shot of the gorgeous paint on his light gun.
In second place with 31.64 points was Al Forbes from Wisconsin. Here's a shot of Al with one of his excellent targets shot with his 6 Dasher last June.
This is his other Heavy Gun target shot the same day.
This is the smallest group I've ever seen shot at 1,000 yards. Al did this with his light gun, also a 6 Dasher.
Here's Al behind his Heavy Gun..
This is a photo I took last summer of three of Al's Dasher rounds next to three of my competition rounds. It simply amazes me that he gets the same
or better performance with a lighter bullet and a lot less powder.
And the top ranking shooter of the year for 2012 with 37.945 points was Sally Bauer. Last year she ranked 15th overall and was Female shooter of the year.
Congratulations Sally! When I first met Sally at Pella, Iowa, she was shooting a box stock Savage target rifle identical to mine, except hers was a
6 BR. She was very competitive with it. Now, both she and her husband Jim both shoot custom guns built by Gordy Gritters. The Bauers came
from Kansas to attend the matches in Missouri. So congratulations to all.
Here's a few shots of Sally with her Heavy Gun, "Stars & Stripes".
I look forward to seeing the three of them in a few weeks for the matches at the Show Me Benchrest club in Missouri to congratulate them in person.
