Congratulations to Danny Brooks who not only whipped up on us at the IBS National Championship’s this year but he is also the IBS 1000 yard Shooter of the Year for 2008. This is the thrid time Danny has won this award which is quite an achievement in itself.

This year the Top 1000 yd Female SOY was Christina Thielen. Christina is also a rookie and has been known to beat her husband Joe numorous times with his gun.Tod Soeby is our 1000 yd Rookie SOY and with the way he has been shooting I am sure we will here more about him in the future. Stephen Fischer is the 1000 yd Junior SOY and quite a tough competitor, he was also the Junoir Champion at the 1000yd Nationals this past year. Let me tell you it can make for a very daunting shoot off to go up against these three - Christina, Tod and Stephen, Congratulations to all of you, you guys earned it.

The following is the top 20 list for IBS Shooter of the Year for 2008. Congratulation to all for an excellent year of shooting in some very tough competition:

1 Danny Brooks 24.67
2 Lee Fischer 23.29
3 Tod Soeby 19.15
4 Mike Eshleman 15.35
5 Stanley Taylor 14.45
6 William Ice 13.84
7 Christina Thielen 11.38
8 Randy Peele 11.30
9 Phillip Yott 10.91
10 Stephen Fischer 10.57
11 Debbie Yott 9.22
12 Rob Ashcraft 8.85
13 Joe Thielen 8.84
14 Leonard Baity 8.64
15 Mathew Kline 8.54
16 Blake Daniels 8.46
17 Mike Wilson 8.35
18 Steve Babo 8.10
19 Al Forbes 7.64
20 Kerry Vinson 7.38

There were also a number of IBS 1,000 yard records broken this year. Light Gun 6 match Group aggregate was broken by Gary Nicholson 4.707 and William Ice 4.683. Heavy Gun 6 Match Group aggregate was broken by Lee Fischer 6.1022 and then my son Stephen Fischer broke that with a 6.0568. Heavy Gun 10 match Group aggregate Lee Fischer 7.3258.

There were a number of shooters who also advanced in the Long Range Marksman program and are as follows:

Bronze level – Al Forbes, Shannon Lowman and Mike Eshleman. Silver level – Debbie Yott, Thomas Sarver and Jeff Walker.

A number of new levels were added to this program recently and the shooters who have achieved them is a who’s who of 1,000 yard shooting: 130 Point level – Kerry Vinson, Ed Caldwell and Bill Shehane. 160 Point level – Danny Brooks and the Highest level achievable – Platinum – the honorable Phillip Yott.

Achieving these levels is no easy task and Congratulations to all. These Long Range Marksman awards will be given out at this years IBS 1000 yard National Championships to be held at the Iowa Club.

I would also like to add a Thank You to, Phillip Yott who is keeping the points for both the 1000 yard SOY and Long Range Marksman program. The complete list for both programs is posted on the IBS web site www.internationalbenchrest.com

As soon as we have final numbers on the 600 yard program we will let you know the results, there were many more 600 yard records broke this year and it is taking some time to get through all of them.

Good job Danny, your an outstanding shooter and a hell of a nice guy. Like to see ya around the 600yd game. it's a good time when your around.

Lee,

I wish it were true, but this is only the second time for SoY, for me. No one has yet to do that as I understand. Lord knows that Phillip has been trying his butt off for the last several years. And he has come close almost every year.
And thank you for the kind words.

Why are we waiting to give out the awards for 2008 at near the end of 2009? We have always given those awards at or before the IBS Winter meeting in Pa. The other disiplines will be handing out their awards at that time. Why are we changing now?
If you don't mind, I have a couple of gunsmiths that want to take a picture of the trophy and my ugly mug for bragging rights. I don't believe that they want to wait another nine months.

Brian,

I would like to get back into the 600 yard game, but right now time and money, mostly the latter, do not agree with that idea. I will try to make it over to Bridgeville at least once before the 1000 yard matches start up.

I need to talk to you, so I will call you one night this week.

Danny

Danny

You are correct the IBS web site has 1999 listed twice. So two time SOY is still a great achievement.

The Long Range Marksman awards are the only awards that will be given out at the National Championship in front of the shooters peers.

The SOY awards will continue to be given out at the end of the shooting season. I am not sure all the Plaques for SOY will be done by the winter mtg. We had numorous records broken both for 1000 yard and 600 yard and it has taken a little longer to get them verified by the records committee. If they are done by the winter mtg they will be given out there if not they will go out as soon as they are done. I will be shipping out thursday your IBS traveling trophy for SOY it will be at the winter mtg. In addition I am having your name added to the Hart trophy and as soon as that is done I will send to you direct. Please e-mail me privately where I should send the Hart trophy.

Congratulations again.

Everyone has a lot to be proud of!!

Congratulations to all.

Lee,

Check your PM here.

By the way, is the Iowa club still considering a four target agg for the Nationals this year? I am looking forward to that. Maybe some of the 600 guys will show up for that.

Congratulations to all of the other shooters listed above. And we all a big "THANK YOU" to Phillip Yott, for keeping the records on the points for all of these years.

Happy New Year to all,
Danny

Nice Shooting

Congratulations from a westcoast shooter!!!
Those agg's are very impressive.
Lynn

Yes the Iowa Club is hosting the IBS 1000 yard National Champioships in 2009and we are still planning on shooting 4 target aggs for both Light and Heavy guns. All shooters I have talked to are excited about this. it will be shot over three days.

Lee

Congrats

Congratulations on a great season Danny. Also to my WV buddies for making such a fine showing.

Looking forward to the 4 target agg in Iowa! That will certainly make for a fun extended weekend of shooting. Dave, is your cooler big enough for that? ;)

Happy New Year everyone!

Take care
Rob

Rob

Not sure if it's big enough for all you guys but we can always reload midmatch. Looking forward to a four target agg. That reduces the miles per shot to a more resonable number.

BTW I'll have a 30 cal. barrel on the way to you next week. Dies are ready. Do you want a Wilson style seater or threaded seating die?

Dave

Dies

I'll take a Wilson seater please.

Any word from Hornady on when brass will be coming to us?

Thanks
Rob

Sounds Good

Sounds like a plan Dave. Now, know anyone making HG rests? Sold mine with my blue HG with plans to get one of George Bower's. George doesnt know if he will be able to make more or not. Might have to see if I can buy my old ones back! lol

I just though I would take a second to thank you guys on this website and the people I met at matches this year. I credit you people for most of my sucsess this year. There are no ranges, gun shops or gun smiths, or anyone else who could help me shoot smaller groups. What I learned was either self taught or I got from you guys.

Also, a big thanks to Clay Spencer, who built a fantastic gun for some no-name hayseed in N.D.

Like I said before.......If I had never won a match....the worst thing I could say is that I met a lot of great people and made a lot of good friends. Oh ya...almost forgot......I had BIG FUN too :D!!

I hope things work out next season to allow me to make some matches. Things are tough all over, but espesialy in the car biz. Maybe I need to start selling you guys cars.:D

Again...Big thanks!!!

Tod Soeby

Cars

Hey Tod,

Get the Big 3 to sell the cars they sell in Europe over here and you will! Would love to have a 45+ mpg diesel, but my only option for that is VW at the moment. Looks like they are finally bringing 1/2 tons with diesels in 2010.

That being said, see you in Iowa Labor Day Weekend, the Lord willing and the creeks dont rise!

Some of my wife's family just moved to Fargo, if it isnt too far maybe I can send you some business when they go looking.

Good Lord, just looked up Walhalla, ND...you are damn near Canadian!

Take care
Rob

I have 2 new 300 Wby BBLs. I will try them in both, and the winner of the two will only see competition in the summer. If the non mag primers work best, I will shoot them. I won't shoot it when it is cold (like deer hunting) out side, so hangfires, or worse, shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks,
Tod
