I Need A Range

I am trying to get in contact with anybody from the Ohio Thunder Valley 1000 yd. range or the Oak Ridge 1000 yd. range. I've called Tom's cellphone in Ohio but haven't heard back in months. I need some range time... So, I tried to join the Oak Ridge club. No response from them either...... "I just can't figure out why we can't get more people interested in 1000yd benchrest??" hmmm...

If anyone has good phone numbers or POC for either range, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Call Southwest Airlines and get a flight out to Sacramento,California immediately. We have both 600 and 1,000 yards and we shoot a match every 4th Sunday of the month all year.We practice every Monday. We have a great facility and a great Match Director as well.
Unfortunately the weather is pretty lousy this time of the year.Today was 65 degrees without a cloud in the sky and no wind.If your tuning up for one of the eastcoast clubs we have an ice machine at our clubhouse and a supermodel can dump it on you if needed. I only saw three movie stars all week long which is kinda slow.
Our club has 25 covered benches at 1,000 yards but if enough movie stars show up we can shoot around 40 guns per relay.
I know what your thinking already-You would rather put on your tire chains and 4wheel all the way to the range so you can sit in a blizzard and practice while trembling. All I can say is if Eva Langoria shows up out here we tremble too.

If your a new shooter it usually takes several matches before you shoot a record.

WOW, 65 degrees....I'd kill for that in January.

THEKABUIKUS (or whoever) ORSA doesn't shoot 1000 yard benchrest. They do shoot 1000 yard cross-course. They do have a great 600/1000 range though. This club is really not too centralized as each discipline runs its own show.

For 600 yard benchrest watch the IBS web site after the annual meeting this weekend for shoot schedules or go to http://orsa.nxs.net/index.htm for more info.

dont go!!!

Kyubaik....if you go to sunny Cal. this time of yr. you better take all of your bullets and gunpowder,,,cause you will sell the other half of ur round trip tiket!!! and stay....
The range there is as nice as the one in Missoula MT(which is a dandy) and has great weather all year round....every day there are aprox 500-800 shooters using the pistol-various shotgun-and short range 100-300yd rifle ranges....the club house and range facilities are top flite....

Lynn.....bak here in the hills we have decided to save our cash (rather than pay 100$ to the overpriced ranges here) and do as you suggest ...get a airyplane tiket to the coast and shoot in style...
We have a lil' country store here that we stop at on the way to Palestine to shoot in the big open fields and valleys there (on a Farm owned by a shooting buddy) we stop to lok in our 4WD hubs,,and get a cupla Diet Dr. Peppers and candy bar from the gal that works there...her ususal work outfit is a cut up tye-dyed "T" shirt that is yellow-black-and PINK that matches the lil' jars of power bait that are on the shelf behind her~!!!!....this shirt was once worn by Jerome Bettis ....her boyfiend made her a fur lined thong out of 3 rabbit hydes and takes her coyote hunting with him ((I think she is the bait--her cologne rivals a well seasoned deer carcas))......and we still have Feburary to go!!! Help...Calgon take me away...hahaahhahah....Roger
PS..say hi to DAD

Thanks Shaery Jarret and pexpiper, I'll give it a try. As for the west coast, I'd love to move out there, I go there on business frequently, I can only imagine the fun of carrying a couple of benchrest guns thru security. (not to mention the baggage handlers pilfering the cases.) regards...

The Kubiaks

If your out here on business already you can ship your guns here in advance if you want.I'm at the range in Sacramento every 4th Sunday of the month and if you want to ship them here that is fine with me.
Getting guns on a plane requires that you leave the case open so they can make sure they aren't loaded. You then need to pick them up at your destination at the security room. Each airport does it a little bit different from what I have seen.
I live 55 miles north of San Francisco and shoot every sunday atleast. If you fly in and have some free time you can shoot one of my guns at our local range.Give me a heads-up before you come out and I'll have everything ready.
The Expiper is good people and lives in West By God Virginia. He might be able to help you in finding a range closer to home.

You may want to look at Tom's reply #7 in the topic "08 IBS 1000 yard Nationals Where & When" in this forum.

Looks like he is alive and well. Probably busy at the meetings he mentions.

Itchy trigger finger

I'am with you on the itchy trigger finger. I live in Ohio, bought a Savage 12F/TR and just fixed a short (200) yard range at my home. Worked up some very encouraging loads and can't wait for Tom's 308 challenge.

I can't and don't allways get back to everybody who calls me and I apologize for that. Sometimes it's overwelming for it can be dozens or more a week throughout the year. Sometimes I don't get home till late....too late to call back or I try folks back the next day and can not reach them...phone tag I guess and after a few times yes I stop. Winter is a tough time for me to schedule shooting but all you have to do as always is call a day ahead of time. Sorry for not getting back to you. But for every person I don't get ahold of there's 20 a week I do and they are normally EXTENSIVE conversations which I ALWAYS give my time to answer questions to help folks get into the sport and spend their money right the first time. This is the part I enjoy and do not complain about. I always take the time to help people.

I'm sorry but your remark about the "wondering why" people arent interested in benchrest is way off course. If I had to count how many shooters I got into this sport and helped it would be a hundred or more and that's modest I believe you were one of them... remember....I do. The problem is, we here on this board RARELY read where someone GOT help. You can do 500 things right and one wrong and that's what people remember. I have spent dozens of weekends here where me or my range made nothing helping shooters for hours when I had other things to do and never complained. I enjoy helping people but don't enjoy defending why I don't get back to everyone everytime.

Please call me and you can come and shoot in my back yard anytime. Just call a day or so ahead so I know your coming. If I'm available I will help spot for you and maybe shoot with you!

Tom;
We've got a couple of guys in Indiana building rifles with your range in mind. You say "1000 yards" and they get this gleam in their eyes.

Shooters,

So that everyone who may be interested knows we are open year round. We have had lots of shooters here all winter (mild) and attendence is growing. For 2008 we should expect a large increase of shooters at matches. This is backed up by all the new shooters and guns coming out of the wood work.
Our 2008 schedule is completed for 600 and 1000 yard IBS matches and it will be posted this week. Once again if you need to practice and need a range day please call us.
I just upgraded my cell phone plan to handle more calls so feel free. If I do not answer I'm workin or out of service area. Please leave a message and if I do not get back to you within a day call me again to remind me. Looking forward to the 2008 season hope you are too!

Tom,
I apologize for the "wondering why " comment. I get frustrated because it is such a long distance for me to come out and shoot. It is usually a two day event since 1000 yds is a rare luxury for me for testing. Hopefully we can figure out a good way to communicate before I drive 4 1/2 hours with all my gear, and find out the range isn't available. Anyway, thanks for the kind offer, I'll try the phone number listed and hopefully we can get together.

By the way, I came out to shoot my 7mmSTW and 6.5x284 with you 2 years ago. We went to lunch with your assistant too. Regards, Alan Kubiak Louisville, KY

Alan,

To simplify things for you the range is open all week and weekends.
You have been here before and I trust your safe so come when you can. Just let me know and I'll have someone here to run targets for (if you need it) you if I can't.

Hope to see you soon,
Tom
