I learned a new trick today

In the course of a phone conversation in which I was helping a fellow on some benchrest related details, he mentioned a barrel cooling trick that I had not heard of before. A friend gave him a battery powered aquarium air pump that is rigged to plug into the chamber and send cooling air through the barrel. He lives a desert area of southern California, and when the weather is hot, being able to shorten barrel cooling time is a definite advantage. I had never heard of such a thing, so I did a little looking around on the internet, and found that they are common. I also found battery powered inflaters for air mattresses and similar things, that may produce a higher volume of air. I know that this is hardly the time of year to be worrying about barrel cooling, but I thought that I would pass it along anyway.

An aerosol can of air will offer a greater rate of cooling due to expansion. Rechargeable cans are available.

one of the best systems

I have ever seen, was a windshield washer pump and various fittings to pump alcohol thru the hot barrel. Cooled VERY well, very fast.
