I bought a lathe

I have finally got my lathe. I have been looking for the last couple years and have finally ran across a good deal and bought it. I have been watching ebay and craigs list for quite awhile now. A couple weeks ago I found this on craigs list, just an hour from my house. If I had the money the guy has a nice Jet mill I would have bought also.

The other pic is my first real attempt at threading. Definately need to get some better threading tools. I got it for $1800 and there is 9 boxes of carbide inserts with it and 2 sets of cheap tooling.

Nice Lathe and nice threads. Congrats.

I would'nt be affraid of a Jet, $1,800.00 sounds OK.

What is the diameter of the spindle bore??
Did it come with a Four Jaw Chuck?
Does it have a spider at the rear of the head stock?

That's good and it's not a Grizzly

Yes it has a four jaw,the steady and follow rests are all brand new, all three of them have never been mounted. The guy had a custom motorcycle shop and had it for making bushing and spacers. He told me that nobody in the shop really had any idea how to run it, and after seeing them, I really believe it. The spindle bore is supposed to be 1.5", that is what the spec sheets say anyway. The latest price I have seen for this lathe is right around $3500 or so.

No spider on the outboard side, but that will be a good project to make. I have already bought some material for it. The quest for the perfect chamber has begun for me now. Gotta get some more tooling before that though.

Sounds like a good starter Lathe. If I didnt have a Grizzly I'd buy a Jet. I'm sure it'll bring you several years of fun and good service.

Take out a loan and get the milling machine !!!!! :D

My project for the day was an internal action wrench to fit my Vipers. I had a piece of stock that was .985 od and the perfect length. I used my lathe for the turning, the milling machine for shaping the head and my Lincoln mig welder for attaching the tee handle.

I then got to use my eyes for a close inspection of the throat on my newly purchased rifle. It looks pretty fresh ;)

I was looking for the price for the mill he has and it was about $7200, he wants $3500 for it, with a bunch of tooling for it also. Just cant do it right now.

I got a helluva deal on my Super Max, $2000 with a good bit of tooling. I smile everytime I walk by it in the garage. Go to my profile and look under threads I have started and you will see a pic.
