a long standing axioma is that primer residu is abrassive. it will ruine your press in short order.
now I want to find out for my self, so while cleaning primer pockets the other day I collected the residu from 100 pockets. than I rubbed that on plain printer paper with my finger. nothing happened either to the finger or to the paper.

question: has anybody a suggestion as to how to test abrassivness?
the finger on paper methode is clearly inadequate

good shooting

The test I have used with other products is to mix with light oil ,a few drops between two small pieces of glass (microscope slides) and rub together.

Chuck.

I used to worry about primer residue and other gunk wearing the body and ram fit on my presses, but after reading Jackie Schmidt's comments on increasing the clearance between the ram and body of his RCBS Partner presses by machining more clearance I figured it was much ado about nothing. His conclusion seems to be that if the ram can float a bit it will help align the case with the die.

Jackie's results in matches can't be denied or complained about, so why worry.

The residue wearing out barrels is something to worry about though IMHO.
