How to remove stock tape?

I have some ratty stock tape on a Robertson stock and would like to replace it. Is there an easy way to do this? My fear is that I'll get it partially off, not be able to do so cleanly and wind up with a mess. Or is it simple to do?

Thanks all.

Use a hairdryer to warm the tape/adhesivebefore you start peeling. Just a bit of warmth can make all the difference in how easily and cleanly stock tape comes off.

If you end up with any adhesive residue left on the stock, WD-40 will ease it off w/o any damage to the stock/paint. You can clean up the WD-40 w/ a bit of rubbing alcohol.
