How to check vertical alignment in tailstock?

What is the best way to check the vertical alignment between the headstock and the tailstock? I put a raceway mandrel between centers and put an indicator on the crossfeed and just ran the length of it to check difference in height. Is there a better way to do it?

hi
i clock the quill and get that level
then i place the dial ind on the face of the chuck
and then run it around the best dead centre that i have in the tail
stock. until i can get as close to zero as possible ( hight plus left right )
