I want to start benchrest shooting 6ppc at 100 yards. I want to buy a Leupold comp 45x power. Is that to much power? Should I go with a 35x or 40x? Thanks for your help.

No and no. The more power the better. I've been shooting 36X's bumped to 55X for about 4 years now and I just ordered a 60X March. I shoot in the SW where mirage is about the worst, but can honestly say I've never had a problem with seeing the rings since I switched.

Are you going to shoot a light varmint rifle?? The weight limit on that class is 10 1/2#. Some rifles won't make weight with the Leupold CS scopes. Magnification is not an issue at least not for me. These scopes have 30mm tubes. If you just want to shoot from a bench as opposed to competitive matches then weight should not be an issue.
