How many FFL holders in Houston Texas

Today according to the New York Times there are 1500 ffl holders in the Houston area. All selling guns. How does one find the correct total and break down from Shops to C&R and holders for manufacturing. I can't figure that there are that many holders. And according to to the NYT they are selling guns to Mexico. Just need the correct info.

The NYT is NOT a good source to quote on any subject. Their basic premise on any subject is that it is the USA's fault. Good shooting ...James

Lew,

I would assume the ATF office in Houston could help you out.....it seems very high to me as well. Every agent I have ever dealt with has been nothing but super friendly and helpful.

Do you have a link to this nyt piece??

Yes I read the same thing about it but the blame is put on the US as the "GUNS come from us". I don't believe that the article truthfuly states the facts. Not all of the guns come from here and not all ffl's are dealers. And the amount of gunstores in the Houston area. The main parts deals with the drug cartels running amouck and they can't control them and we can't stop them either. Pass more gun laws to stop them such BS. We have asked them to stem the illegal immgration for years but no new laws from them. But to stop guns they want us to change that.
The article also brings into account the loop hole at gunshows of how easy it is to get guns by friendly sales yes thats a issue sellers should be more aware as that kid stated it doesn't matter who he sells it to its going to get to them anyway. Thats scary. We need to police the issue our selves on how and who we sell stuff to on friendly sales. I see more controls coming and a dimishing of our rights and use of firearms as a sport in the next few years if we don't wake up.

Let me do the Negotiating with the Mexican Government.

Plain and simple….we'll round up all of our guns down there as soon as they round up all the illegal's up here….fair and square.

I'll guarantee you there are more illegal's up here than there is guns down there.

Misleading statement

"Federal agents say about 90 percent of the 12,000 pistols and rifles the Mexican authorities recovered from drug dealers last year and asked to be traced came from dealers in the United States, most of them in Texas and Arizona".
The key part of the statement is "and asked to be traced".
I remember reading somewhere the "ask to be traced" number was less than 100 weapons. So out of that 12,000 weapons less than 100 came from the U.S.
Just an example of media 'spin'.

And how many do you think were stolen! I have always said there should be one gun law on this type of thing, get caught with a stolen or illegal gun committing a crime and get life in prison. No get out free cards.

Mexico

Roll down to Mexico City -stick an American flag on top of the Capital and say you now belong to the USA, subject to USA laws.
Send down a top General as an over seerer- corruption is gone. Everyone signs up and pays taxes. American factories can now build plants in Mexico without fear of being nationalized. USA now has a country full of cheep labor that would compete against China. The people that live in Mexico standard of living would slowly rise. Illegals here would start drifting back home for jobs. In 5 years or less we could cut down probably 1/2 of the money going to China. China's growth would slow way down- we would have 10 million or so more tax payers. No more illegal aliens. No more Drug cartels. We have the right to invade Mexico, we aare under seige from them. Iraq did a lot less and we are spending Billions there. win win for everyone. my 2 cents joe:)

Great link, but only part of the whole story. FOX news did break it down further in another program. I think it was on Glenn Beck a few weeks ago, when the new lies for old finally reared her ugly head. Only 6,000 could be checked out of the total seized. Of that number only a tiny fraction were traced back to the U.S. The NRA has demand to see the results of this investigation but the feds have refused to give up the report.

I know that no one here smells a fish.

I cross into mexico about 2-3 times a month right now and the military does close to a 100% inspection at the port of entry. My vehicle gets checked every time.....there really is no way to bring in large qty's of long guns in this particular fashion.

I know mex and cuba do some biz together and have a good tourist trade between the two countries. My bet is that is where most come from...not to mentios central america.
