How hard

I recently received my Protektor dr. flat top rear bag. The bag itself along with both ears are rock hard. My previous rear bag was smaller and not nearly as hard. Does having it this full cause problems when benchrest shooting. Should I empty out some of the sand. Seems like it being that hard might cause stock to bounce during firing. Opinions welcome.

I like to have the main body of the bag to be pretty hard and the ears to be somewhat softer but they should be firm enough to support and provide guidance to the buttstock. The flat between the ears should actually be flat and not concave, convex or slanted to one side or the other.

Keep in mind that the leather will stretch on a new bag, so it will loosen up quickly.

Depends on how you use the bag...if you squeeze it to aim, it's too hard. Otherwise, if it sits still and you can aim quickly, it's good to go.
