How do you store your rifle?

Do you leave the action screws tight or loosen them up while in the gun safe. And do you loosen and re torque before shooting?

My guess is if you have pillars don't mess with it. If just wood it might make sense to loosen.

how to store rifle

Bartman,
I just came back from shooting after 25 years off. My rifles and pistols are in a safe with golden rods and I put some of my firearms in plastic containers the military uses to protect them from the elements. I oiled and greased some of the firearms and they are all in perfect condtion. Even in my safe the firearms are exposed to micro dust particals and take a while to shoot and clean and lube before they get their feel back but they arm in perfect shape. I have match rifles and pistols and did not disassemble them. I'm talking 54 Anshutzs, custom benchrests rifles etc, etc, all work perfectly to my amazement. I'm not sure of the time duration you are referring to but if you shoot once a month or so I don't think extraordary measures are required as the powders and primers are not corrosive these days. I shoot my firearms until the accuracy starts to wander before I clean them. People go from one extreme to the other I can't tell what you are interested in but if you are a top grade match shooter you will have a different regimine that a top grade recreational shooter.
good shooting, ifldned

Just wondered what most benchrest guys were doing. Why I ask I had a match this month and I done something different. I pulled my guns out of the safe the night before and put them in cases inside the house. MY gune safe is in my garage with a golden rod and closer to outside temperature. At the match both bench gun scopes were off several clicks. They are hardly ever off that much. Just figured my guns temps got to that of the house 72 and maybe its just nothing but I thought from now on I would loosen them all and tighten them before a match

how to store rifle

Bartman,
You have to be very specific here on storage time as with benchrest 22.lr we're talking a hundredth of a inch is substantial. And a tenth of a inch is miles.

rifle storage

Bartman,
I'm no expert but I have shot alot in my lifetime and had the privilege to shoot with many state and national champions. You have to shoot your rifle and make adjustments under the circumstances you are shooting at the time. Yesterday is gone and you have to adjust for conditions right now. I think most top shooters will agree.
