How do you make 30x47 cases from .300 Savage brass?

Find a cheap 308 FL die and cut it off or have it cut off. use that to push the shoulder back and rock on. If I were you I would cut it off enuf to do 30x44 as well. You will find them to be a great cartridge as well

The '30X47' moniker includes many different case configurations. A 'true' 30X47 will be 1.850 long...but there's more to it than that.

There are '30X47's with the 30 degree shoulder of the 300 Savage, '30X47's with the 308 Winchester 20 degree shoulder, etc, etc. And of course, the '30X47' made from the 6.5X47L necked to .30. Plus all the subtle variations of each.

If you don't have a chamber print to work from, I'd suggest making a quick Cerrosafe cast of the chamber. If you're lucky, the chamber will be big enough at the back end (over .471) to take the Lapua 6.5X47 case. The cast will also let you check the exact case length and neck diameter.

A reamer print, fired case and/or a chamber cast can keep you out of trouble. -Al

Thanks David. Do you cut it to the 47 milimeter length?

Even if you are only ever going to form 30x47's, you want the die shorter than 47. You really do want to push the shoulder back at least a little further than where it will eventually, after fireforming, end up.
