How do you hold a Sporter?

I'd like to shoot IR 50/50. I'm competitive in the heavy guns. But, I can't figure out how to hold the little sporters. What is the best way to hold them? (Yeah, I know that every gun is different. But how do you hold yours?)

hawkeye, I have a fudd top and found by extending the stock stop out to 6" the rest has more of the stock to cradle. I only touch with the shoulder slightly and no cheek weld. you want the stock to come straight back so it has to be held some but not a gorrila grip. I have several sporters and they are all held a little differently, none are shot totally free. these are not custom sporter stocks but traditional sporters.
 
I like to rest my thumb just below where the tang and stock come together.
I'd call it stabilizing more than holding. The key is doing it the same each time.
I've gotten into the habit of setting my crosshair dot at 6:00 on a RBA target
and using my thumb to "push" into the center of the target.
 
Same here, free recoil. I also use a Fudd top and put a little sideways pressure on it. I have a Pippin stock that tracks beautifully. I also have a stock Cooper sporter, when I shoot that, I have to hold it. It has a very rounded forend and will roll.

It really is all about what your rifle wants. Listen to it.
 
Veerryy carefully! Look out this year Ron I am upgrading my optics to bifocals.
