How do you deal with the wind?

The way I see it there are three ways to deal with the wind.
1. Shoot when the wind is most calm, or still, and either aim dead on or make small corrections.
2. Try to shoot when the wind is coming from the same direction and intensity and adjust the same for each shot.
3. Dope the wind, adjust for the condition at hand.
Obviously number one is not always an option. I would suspect that most people prefer to shoot by the second method. The third method is the method of choice when you have five bulls to go and one minute left.
I normally have to shoot by method three. My gun requires 2-3 pumps for each shot which takes a lot time, time that is needed for the first two shooting styles.

Dan,

Believe it or not, once at Pinnacle when we were shooting in conditions very similar to what you saw on Saturday this new shooter shows up. He brought in a highly tricked out 10/22 and sets it up on a bag system no different than you use, then proceeds to kick our butts, just like you usually do. After the match I asked him what he had done as far as holding offs, to which he responded: what do you mean? So, I repeated my question, only this time being more specific, to which he responded: I held dead on the X and pulled the trigger.

Moral: sometimes we over think what we do ....or, some things just make no sense whatsoever!

yah?

We had a guy come to one a my FT matches ... an he TIED for first! Now that day, many shots REQUIRED holdoffs of three to five INCHES ... there was no waiting for wind to stop, it NEVER stopped!

AN this guy Leo, he says, wow you guys didnt SAY it would be windy! He says, i didnt know WHAT to do, some folks said they hold off some, others say they "click", I was confused, so I just aimed straight!

Moral? Don't believe everything folks say.

During the shootoff, he alternated with the eventual winner on shooting, with each guy supposed to take six shots, best of six winning. The guy that won admitted he was holding off 4-5" of wind, but only using elvation for 35yds, though the targets were at 53 yards ... to compensate for an updraft. The winner got 5/6, Leo got 3/6 (impossible had he shot "straight")
