How do I determine gun values?

Because of age, I find that it is time to let go of most of my guns. Some are customs, some are factory. I have a Blue Book of Gun Values, but it is about 5 years out of date. I know I can buy a new one, but I am curious. Does anyone have a feel for how much guns have appreciated through inflation and increased demand in the past 5 years? Does anyone have a feel for pricing custom guns? Maybe just post without a price and see what interest there is?

I'm not convinced that the prices in the book are a good indication of market value -- particularly for a custom gun. I'd look at completed auctions on the online auction sites; if you don't see a listing for what you have and you think it would be in high demand, put it out there with a low starting price on a 14-day auction -- the market will set the price. If you think it might not be in high demand, put it out there with a high starting price and drop the price over time until it sells.

I am one to truly believe that prices are all over the place BUT when I go to price guns- as mentioned earlier I go to the auction sites--I look at the prices that guns have been sold for NOT the asking price. Gun Broker is a good source for "Real World" Prices.

The Blue Book is a good book for "Bathroom" Reading not much else much like Muscle Car pricing guides it very seldom give the Real World prices.

Good Luck
