Hornady's high BC claim

Hornady just came out with a 53gr V-Max with a BC claim of 290. How can that be true? It weights less then their 55gr V-Max. Yes it has a boat tail design ,but so does Nosler's 55gr BT. Its BC is lower then Hornady ?????

"Hornady Superformance Varmint" - Aaron Carter, American Rifleman January 2011

"The 53-gr. V-Max measures 0.829" in length as opposed to the 55-gr. V-Max's 0.811", but the former (53-gr) also has a boattail base and different ogive, which is similar to that of the company's 75-gr. BTHP (BC = .395) match bullet. Internally, there's also a slightly larger hollow point."

The Nosler 55-gr. Ballistic Tip (BC = .267) has a nominal length of 0.812". The 53-gr. V-Max should shoot great in a 1:9 twist. - nhk
