Hornady Lockring Tool

I have been wanting to make an alum boxend wrench for the Hornady lockrings and finally got arountuit. I hate using slip joint pliers and a steel openend wrench is way too heavy and clunky for the torque needed.

I used some 1/8"x2" stock I had laying around. 3/16" thick stock would be better but the piece of that size I have is used strictly for buttplates ;). Really, the 1/8" thick stuff is plenty strong enough.

I think some enterprising individual should mass produce these and offer them for sale for about $6.00.

I love the way one good idea can lead to another.

Worring about the problem of snugging up & releasing Redding & Forster lock rings got me thinking about Gene Beggs' barrel tuner & the tommy bars he uses on it. If you looked at the dies I've been using for the last week, you'll find that all of them have a 4 mm hole or two around the circumference. The 4 mm allen key that is always lying on my bench is just the thing to get the right feel locking down my dies enough so they don't work loose & breaking them out when I'm done.
