Homer Strickland, formally of Alaska and recently of Arkansas passed away on Thursday night Febuary 24th after a long battle with Cancer. Homer was a top gunsmith and Benchrest shooter. A big loss.

Homer was one of the really good guys of shooting. I shot with him many times and he was always a joy to be around. A very talented machinist, I still have some of the tools that he made for me. Like me, he was a handgun hunter and wildcatter and so we had a lot of lies to swap. Homer took both a moose and caribou with a handgun. He'll be missed.

Sorry to hear that, Homer was a nice person who I first meet about thirty-five years ago.

Man I really hate that. I've known Homer for a long time. I knew that he was fighting the cancer, but let time get away and I haven't checked on him in the last few months. He is just really a great guy.

Bill, sorry to hear of Homer's passing, we knew you two were close, and we remember him. Thanks for letting us know.

Homer and Don Heavlin worked in the oil business in Texas before going to the Big State up north. Fancy having two BR shooters up there at the same time. One fond memory of Homer involves my stomach. He came to a match at Holton but before leaving Alaska he first caught, froze, and air shipped enough Halibut to feed everyone at the match. I thought highly of Homer before that, though.

I cannot say as I ever met Homer. But after FB's description of him I know I and the whole BR community are diminished. Any man who would part w/ that much Halibut, gratis, is truly a class act. I stand at the feet of giants, head bowed.

Man am I sorry to hear this. It was a big loss to the shooting community in Alaska when he moved down south. Seem like just a little while ago that he lost his wife to cancer. Man was that ever hard on him.
Now he is gone too, I'll sure miss him!

There's nothing I can add to what's already been said. But when I open my loading box, there are two slick litlle ideas he came up with. One is the case trimmer shorter than most little fingers, for touching them up after they have been trimmed at home.
Bill Gammon had some of them . He might be the one to contact if you're needing one.
He left us with fond memories...

Thanks Bill...

We are all truly diminished. I have known Homer for quite a few years and spent many a cold winter afternoon with him discussing everything from rifles to NASCAR to on-line trading. Godspeed Homer.
