Smarts too. I had a friend lose a finger in Jr High while making our own rocket fuel and gun powder. Never tied it again.

Holy Crap! That was funny!

Reminds me of myself and two of my friends (about 45 years ago). One of the guys blew the wall out of his garage, the other lost an eye. I was the lucky one and quit experimenting!

I make plastic explosives and Destructive devices for a living.
I wouldent even think of making gunpowder, especially black powder, that stuff is just plain dangerous.

It's a fake. The vid's a fake.

I've been making black powder and pyrotechnic stuff for 35yrs and now have kids taking it to new levels.

It's no more dangerous than taking a bath.

Or a dump for that matter.

It's America.

Way back nearly 60 years ago a few other guys and I decided that making black powder would be fun. We knew what we needed and trundled over to the nearby Rexall drugstore to buy sulfur, potassium nitrate, and made our own charcoal (only the best for us!). Since we didn't really know how it was supposed to be made except for the proportions all we usually got was some stuff that stunk like sin when it burned. Now if we'd added a little water and mixed it up well, then dried it and broke it into powder we might have had an explosion and even more trouble from our folks than we got.

This is the first I ever heard of using magnesium in "gun powder" though. The guy's lucky he didn't hurt himself seriously.

Black powder isn't dangerous unless you've got a fair amount of it - a pound or so = and feel a need to make sparks, smoke, or something similar. I've had enough stuff go bang in the lab that this stuff has sort of lost it's thrill.

WOW !!! his shirt was blue with a picture on it in the first half then it turned solid black in the 2nd half.. FAKE....But still funny..

Well yeahh, if he'd actually HAD magnesium in there ;)

If he had we'd have seen a furious white flare.

And the 'Deliverance' theme coupled with his rehearsed "surprise" didn't make it any more believable.........

I was lucky in regards to "getting in trouble." My parents felt (wisely) that letting me experiment in the lab would be more fruitful than me experimenting out in the real world. I did the same thing, went into the drugstore for "pure ground sulphur, potassium nitrate and medical grade hardwood charcoal." The pharmacist looked over his glasses and asked "does your mother know what you're doing?"

So I dragged out my permission slip. (I was a forward thinking lad even at 13.)

Love that woman!

LOL

Ohh yeahh.... and you've got to mix it with water and cook it.

Then regrind it.

oorahhhhh

Good eye Al...................... I never caught that............ I guess that is why I just install telephones, I-net, and TV.

Figured I was not good at paying attention in class...........

Regardless the reaction is pretty good. Thanks for curing me of my ailment. I will not be pe++++ my pants anymore everytime I watch it.
