Homemade front rest

Awhile back my dad made this front rest ...very impressive I think..He machined it using brass, the wood is rosewood...anyway here are a few pictures...

Here are a few more...the rifle is an FN mauser single shot in .222 that he used in the 60's to benchrest shoot...note the anshutze double set trigger.

The rigle still shoots and looks great for damn near fifty years old....
 
Sorry bear with me, here is also an Arbor press that he machined in his shop...as you can probably tell i'm somewhat proud...

Your Dad done did good! Very nice work. Congrats to him and good for you. I too would be proud!
 
Alright I promise i'll quit....just one more..by the way he also built this rifle in the 60's and continues to build rifles for my brother and me....

Hey thanks guys,
My dad has a small machine shop at home..he's been doing this stuff for alot of years. He still fits barrells for my brother and me, just wish some of his skills woulda rubbed off on us.:(
 
That is great, my dad used to build rifles from mauser action, heavy barrel varmit guns. He was good at wood and fitting, didnt do the machine work. He has been gone 19 years, I didnt learn near enough from him.

Absolutely beautiful. But are you sure all the parts are rosewood? The center post and knobs look like purpleheart.

Thats exactly what it is..my mistake..I actually caught that awhile ago and didn't think anyone would notice...thanks for the correction.
 
I might exsplain that the table on that arbor press rotate's, and is controlled by a ball detent. The die on the right in the photo is a straight line primer seater. It is made for both large, and small primers, and is adjustable for seating depth.It has a close fitting rod that goes inside the case, and bear's on the case head. With that press, it has a very sensitive feel.
