Its time for me to build a curing oven probably needs to be about 32" long. Stiller action & 28" barrel, zb30 action ... an stuff! How about some ideas or how to's out there???? Was considering a piece of insulated air conditioning duct. Would a simple hot plate work? It would be nice to buy a heat source with a variable control built in.

Would

an old fridge with a light bulb in it do the job?

I use flood lamps with a dimmer switch inside a box that I built that is insulated and get very good results using Duracoat.

I have 2 cabinets, one is a old school locker lined with fireproof ceiling tile for insulation and 150 watt bulb. This is for curing stocks.
The other is a new blueing tank with lid and a small gas cooking burner below purchased from harbor freight.both have thermometers that extend inside and heat is easy to control. This one is used for bake on finishes.

I made mine out of plywood and lined it with foil covered urethane foam. For heat, 3 heat lamp bulbs on a dimmer switch. Oven thermometer in the middle and a small fan in the top to circulate the air. It will go to 320 degrees. It's worked for 20 years now.

you can also make a solar oven from glass & sheetmetal. get a metal drywall stud thats between 8-12" wide & cut it about 40" long or how ever long you need the oven to be. then have a glass shop cut three panes of glass the same width & length as the drywall stud. to attach the glass to the drywall stud you can make a frame from light gauge angle or metal drywall corner bead. then silicone the glass in place. you can sandwich the glass between two layers of angle but its usually not necessary. use some of the left over drywall stud for the end caps & install a bbq thermometer & wait for a sunny day.
they get hot enough to cure bake on finishes

Get a locker and put insulation on the outside. I gutted an old oven to use for the heating element. Mine works great. I paint Gunkote finishes all the time. Its gets up to 325 no problem and isnt hot on the outside at all .I also put a backup therometer to make sure the temp is within specs. Use alum tape for the seams.

Thanks

Thanks guys will let you know what i come up with.
The buying a 25.00 oven sounds pretty good as it gives me temprature control and a heat source. Kind of concerned though as i think i would have to plug it into 220.... id like something 110 volt.
