Benches

Sometime ago there was an article in a magazine that had the blueprints for the roll around tables that you use. You wouldn't have a set of prints for the tables laying around would yo?

Larry,
I copied Joe Haller's plans. He used 6 inch well pipe for legs with a wooden top. He has to drag them into position for each shoot. I saw a plan that used three trailer jacks for easy placement. The jacks are $29.00 so went with one and 4 inch casters for the front legs. A 12 year old can move the benches around. The first two I bought new steel 4X4 1/8 square tube and 2x3 tube for the bottom braces with 1 1/2 angle at the top to connect the wooden top or Cement top. All the rest I got scrap steel some have 3 inch legs some 3 1/2 and others 4 inch.

The cement top I poured at home and with my engine hoist put in my truck to deliver to the range. With new steel it cost a little over $100.00 with jack and 4 80 lb bags and one 40 lb bag. Used rebar that was free. With used steel could make ones with wooden tops under $65.00 includes paint. Jack not needed with wooden tops.

I made 4 for the indoor range with wooden tops. (I have used them outdoors also) I would have made all ours with wooden tops if had it to do over.

I can make some drawings if you want this weekend.

Larry,

If this will open for you, you'll be very lucky. Here's a posting by Joe Haller about his bench design. I used it for my personal bench, but used all wood instead of going with the steel for the frame. The steel would have been much better though as mine sits outside all year long, and over time the wood has shrunken enough to loosen everything up so there's quite a bit of wooble to it now.

I'm not sure if this design is the one Paul refered to, or not, but Paul's are great to the point that I even begged him into making me one for use at my barn for my indoor range. If you copy his design, you won't go wrong.

By the way, this URL was from a 1/26/2006 posting labeled as "Height of Shooting Bench.

Oh, and Paul, have you heard the latest? Sounds like the fun shoot may turn out to be another one of those wet and weiry days @ Holbrook as the Weather Guru's are calling for rain all day with moderate breezes and temps down in the mid to upper 40's at best. Can you believe it? Hope there's plenty of wood for the stove, and that the pipe has been put through to the outside, cause it might get a bit smokey in the shooting shack if it ain't.

Fun shoot

Made up a bunch of targets with 25 NECCO wafers as the bullseye. Also have 500 lollypops for 50 and 100 yard targets. Will have the .22 hunter pistol targets set out to 100 yards Bunch of paint balls and several Quad and a few resettable field targets. Will move the benches back under the covered firing line a few more feet as it looks like it might still be raining.

Doug Shea has made several targets that spin, swing, splat, gong etc.

The wood stove will be fired up and your welcome to use any of the guns I have. Two rapids and an usft.

Hope to see you Sunday around 9:00.
